Community Projects LACADA2009 Day of Caring Project - LACADA – In cooperation with the Community Foundation of Lorain County, the NCBIA Remodelers helped perform an extreme makeover to transform two rooms at LACADA’s Key residential program for women and their children. The first room is a Mom and Child Room where one to two mothers can spend quality time bonding with their young infants and children. The second smaller room is an Observation room where a counselor can observe the mothers’ interaction with their children in order to provide much-needed feedback on how the mothers can improve on their parenting.

LACADA representatives CFO Darlene Rico and Associate Director of Women’s Services, Helen Rodriguez presented the NCBIA Remodelers with a plaque in the room dedicated to the NCBIA Remodeler members who donated their time, labor and materials.

Community Projects Deck Cascade
Observation Deck at Cascade Park
– The NCBIA Remodelers, whose original name was Remodelors™ Council, built the West Observation deck in Cascade Park. A permanent plaque is still on the spot to recognize the men who donated time, labor and materials to make a beautiful and safe place to view the river and falls.

Community Projects FireHouseFire Safety House – This project was spearheaded by our 1990 NCBIA President Rick Hutman. Rick drew up the plans and the remodelers built the Fire Safety House. The house was displayed at many events throughout the county. It was a small play house size for children to walk through. The children experienced simulated fire hazards in the different rooms and learn how to protect themselves in the event of a fire in their own home. Many organizations throughout the country requested the plans so they could duplicate this effective project.

Community Projects Blessing HouseBlessing House - Blessing House started as an idea in the fall of 2001 as Sr. Mary Berigan and Donna Humphrey, both guardian ad litems in the children’s advocacy program Voices for Children, began wondering about an alternate way to help families before they became involved in the child welfare system. They felt too many parents just didn’t have enough help when they were dealing with the emergencies in their lives and often would not have the time or energy to care for their children. A board of directors was developed and a non profit agency was formed in 2003. Together, this group of Lorain County citizens secured the funding and found a house, which was quickly transformed into a cheery, child friendly 5 bedroom home.

The Remodeler’s Council of the North Coast BIA played a large role by helping to convert a garage into usable space and building a handicap accessible ramp.
